Treatments for Neck Pain

Neck pain can stem from issues affecting the muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, or bones that make up the cervical spine (the vertebrae in your neck). Some of the most frequent causes include:

  • Muscle strains and tension

  • Herniated or bulging discs

  • Whiplash or other traumatic injuries

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Bone spurs

  • Osteoporosis

  • Stress-related tightness in the muscles

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Cervical spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal)

  • Degenerative disc disease

  • Cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerves)

Understanding Neck and Upper Limb Pain

Shoulder pain and everyday arm movement alone can strain the muscles and tendons that stabilize your shoulder joint. Any extra stress your shoulder endures due to repetitive movement and athletic activities further increases your risk of injuries and pain.  Some of the most common causes of shoulder pain include:

  • Arthritis

  • Rotator cuff tear

  • Biceps tendinitis

  • Rotator cuff tendinitis

  • Impingement

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Labrum tear

  • Fractures

  • Bursitis

How Is Neck & Upper Limb Pain Diagnosed?

Dr. Hamed begins diagnosis with a thorough physical examination to assess mobility, range of motion, and areas of discomfort. Your medical history and current symptoms also help guide the process.
When needed, additional tests may be ordered to confirm the source of pain, such as X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, and Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) to evaluate nerve health and function.

In many cases, simple measures such as improving posture, avoiding prolonged strain, and using heat or cold therapy can reduce pain. Over-the-counter pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medications may also provide short-term relief.
For persistent or more severe cases, Dr. Hamed offers a full range of advanced treatment options, including:

  • Physical therapy

  • Prescription medications

  • Trigger point injections

  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy

  • Epidural steroid injections

  • Facet joint injections

  • Radiofrequency ablation

  • Spinal cord stimulation

Each treatment plan is personalized, with a focus on using the least invasive methods whenever possible to restore comfort and improve quality of life. Contact our office to schedule a consultation and explore your treatment options.
